Haemolytic disease of the newborn
A. Affects mainly babies of Rh-positive mothers.
B. Occurs mainly in babies who lack D agglutinogen.
C. Causes jaundice which clears rapidly after birth.
D. Can be treated by transfusing the affected baby with Rh-positive blood.
E. Can be prevented by injecting the mother with anti-D agglutinins just after delivery.

Administering anti-D immunoglobulin to Rh-negative mothers prevents the development of antibodies against Rh-positive blood cells, thus reducing the risk of hemolytic disease in subsequent pregnancies.
